4-Day Animal/Pet Portrait Workshop - June 6-9, 2025, Maurertown, VA

Want to learn to paint animals? This is the class for you! In this intensive 4-day animal portrait workshop, Certified Art Instructor, Shelly Miller, will teach the techniques needed to paint realistic portraits of pets or other animals. Classes will be held from 9 am to 4 pm daily from June 6 - 9, 2025. 

Students will learn techniques for mixing various colors of fur, hair, eyes, and noses; brushstroke techniques to paint hair and fur of different lengths and textures; how to achieve realism through dimension and contrast by completing a one-color underpainting and applying several colors layers over it; and how to choose background colors. Shelly walks her students through each step of the process and provides demonstrations of each technique. 

Students are guaranteed to complete one painting of an animal of their choice from their own reference photo, but may bring a second piece to work on if time permits. Each student will work at their own pace. This class is limited to 10 students, so each will receive personalized instruction and plenty of one-on-one time with the instructor. No painting experience required, and beginners are encouraged to attend!

The cost for this 4-day seminar will be $350, with a deposit of $175 due at the time you reserve your seat.
